My 93 Vet has had a problem with the antenna since I bought it. The antenna goes up and down very smotthly, but when it goes down it stop about 6 inches above the fender. Is there anything I can try to do to correct the problem short of buying a new antenna? I welcome any and all input and advice.

You could try a bit of WD40 or silicone spray, if that does not work. You'll need a new antenna mast. I think they are like 40 or so. Not too bad, as long as the motor is running just the mast can be replaced. This does require removal of the whole assembly from the car, if I remember right.

Had the exact same problem with my 88. Replaced the mast and all is well. Found out the reason it wouldn't go all the way down was the last few inches of the plastic tape had the teeth broken off. If the motor is working, which it sounds like it does, all you need is the mast. It has been several years since I did mine but I think the directions say to run the mast up, pull up on the mast and it will come out. Note: remember the directions of the teeth. I think all I did was start the new mast teeth down in the motor as far as it went and then cycled it and it went down. I may not be exactly correct on this but there are directions that come with the mast. Not a hard job.

Your purdy close,
Remove the rubber grommet from qtr panel
Remove the Nut at top of antenna housing tube
Have someone turn on Radio,Catch the antenna mast before it spits it out and scratches the car
Insert antenna ribbon till bottomed out teeth pointed the same direction as it came out
Turn off Radio and it will suck that puppy in
Re-install nut,Re-install rubber grommet in qtr panel

Your Done!~!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

Thanks for the replies. This sure sounds like my problem, and from what I have researched that is how it is replaced. I found a replacement on Ebay at what appears a very good price, I just need to order it and get it put on.

Thanks for sounding off Junk........ Long time no hear from you. I hope all is going well in your world.

Thanks for the help Junk. I was working from my (diminished) memory at work and forgot a lot of the details. Seems like that darn CRS kicks in more often now.
