Help. Nothing happens when I shift into reverse. There is a clicking sound when I let up on the clutch, but that is all. All of the forward gears work fine. The car only has 27K mileage and I do not ride the clutch. She is driven very gently.

Any suggestions?

slave cylinder went on mine at 45k.

Are you the original owner? If not, you can't be sure what they did with it.

It can be hard to get into reverse... sometimes it feels like it's there, but it's actually not. And then it will make a tick sound or
possibly grind when you put the clutch out because the gears aren't actually engaged enough, and just brush eachother.

Your model year, I believe, has a friction gate on reverse. It can feel like it's in reverse when you're just pushing against the friction gate rather than the meshed gears. So just try pulling back harder, and hope the problem is as simple as that.

Thanks for the ideas. I tried Skant's suggestion, to no avail. It is makeing the clickings sound. When I try to slam into reverse I get a mechanical clunking. I know reverse is there I just can't get the rest of the car there.

Please explain,

If there is a problem with the slave cylinder (I also have trouble sometimes getting into rev) why is it ONLY apparant when selecting rev. All the other 6 gears are fine. What's so special about getting into reverse?

Does getting into 1st thru 6th NOT use the slave cylinder? I guess that would explain it.

Trying to learn.
