I'm still having trouble with the A/C controls on my 95. I took the controller out, cleaned behind all the buttons, including the little carbon contactors. When I got in the car this morning and pushed the vent button, everything worked fine (the light did flash for a few minutes and then stayed on solid). About 15 minutes later, the outside temp reading started going crazy registering everything between -15 to 38 (real temp was about 55). It also affected the heater. It was set to 65, but began to put out warm air. I had to reset it to 60 before it would blow just vent air. Anyone out there have this kind of experience???

Had a similar problem on my 92. The little green lights flash when you start up then go solid. Time for a new control head. The part with the buttons in the dashboard. Hang on to your wallet.

I've seen problems with cracked solder joints in the PCB on the controller. If you have a soldering iron it might be a good idea to touch up all the solder as well.

Try ebay, they come up all the time

A/C control

Have you checked the ambient air temp sensor? It can cause erratic outside air temp readings and drive the controller nuts. My car has standard A/C so I can't pin down its location. The manual says it's near the upper radiator support and the front crossbar tie member but the diagram looks like its down low on the passenger side, way up front.
My dad had a Buick with symptoms like yours and it was this ambient air sensor.

Try www.vette2vette.com I had this same problem with my 1996 and replacing the dash push button unit totally fixed the problem. V2V is a great source for first rate used Vette parts. They ship all over.

Alan -

Out of curosity - how bad were the contacts when you took the unit apart for cleaning? Was it obvious that they were dirty / corroded - or did you just clean to see if that solved the problem?

Was it easy to get apart - screws - or did you need to break open heat sealed plastic rivets?

Thinking about cleaning mine over the winter - let us know how you resolved the problem...

The little carbon contacts are pretty small, about .050". Couldn't tell whether they were dirty or not. I used a q-tip and alchohol and after cleaning all of them, it was still basically white. The problem seem to have gone away, however, my outside temp sensor still gives crazy numbers, especially in the morning hours.

Taking it apart is not really difficult. There are no heat sealed rivets on a 95. Just use a small socket on the 4 screws at the corners. After that, pull gently on the front end and rotate so the 2 screws on the circuit aboard can be removed. You can then clean the P/C board as well as the carbon on the silicon rubber. Good luck.

Yes, try ebay.
THey come up from time to time for under 100$ easy.
