You don't need that much water, just a drop on the tip of your finger will be enough to create bubbles if there is a leak. Sometimes when I'm too lazy to get some dishwashing soap out of the kitchen, I'll use glass cleaner, anything that wilol create bubbles from the escaping air will work.
Yeah, if you take the seat out, it probably will be much easier to work with. As long as the wires and hoses will reach.
You could take the whole thing into the house where it's warm, buy some vinyl hose the size of that which is in the seat, and you be the air source. Buy enough so that you can have it connected to the supply side of the control box or what ever, and you can still be working around the other side of the seat.
