Refrigerant oil capacity should be written on a tag on backside of old compressor!~!!:thumb:thumb:thumb

it's 6 oz in a R-12 system...so 6 to 8 max would be ok.
A little extra going to 8 oz won;t hurt because the dryer/accumalator collects it all and stores it. The rest is spread thru the system and hides in the evap and condensor.

Add about an oz to the compressor and rotate it 10 revolutions by hand once mounted and connected. The rest of the oil goes into the condensor, dryer and line to the evap. Spread it around so there are no "pools" anywhere.
Just make sure to get some IN the compressor. This helps prevent startup damage when the system has no charge and it helps wet the shaft seal so its not damaged when dry.

Too much oil reduces efficiency, while too little can cause premature wear, so stay around 6-8oz.

Lube all your o-rings with oil too. tighten all fittings real snug, but not over tight.

YES !

CG is right !

remember these aluminum tubes are as fragile as paper mache'....probably more. ALWAYS use a back-up wrench on these alum tubing fittings or suffer the consequences. Be very careful of cross threading....use fingers to start and screw the fitting down a min of 2 full turns before using a wrench.

.....another, "ask me how I know" kind of project..;LOL
