Proud poppa to a beautiful 1988 Callaway Corvette
I know it's the wrong time of the year to be worrying with the A/C compressor, but the clutch on mine let go back in the hot months and I would like to go ahead and take care of it whilst taking care of some other maintenance. So, the title says it all: Did Callaway change the compressor, or were they able to utilize the existing one (as they did with most everything else which is quite an engineering feat)? If it is stock, does anyone know where I might be able to pick one up for a reasonable price? Perhaps does someone have a used working one sitting around??

BTW, I went to the SGC gathering Saturday. There were some pretty amazing cars out there! There was one TT Viper there that made 953rwhp and 1000+rwtq on the stock engine and high boost. Also, I came away with even more respect for the engineering that goes on at LPE. If you didn't know what to look for, you surely would not know some of those C5s were TT. They looked stock!! Great group of people, too!

Justin, the compressor is the same however, the manifold atop the unit is different - If you are looking for just the clutch, it is serviceable seperately.
I am going to replace the one in my regulalr 1989 Corvette w/ the "small" compressor however, the clutch I was given to "try" was the wrong part # and I have yet to go back and get the right one...

If you have some time, I hope to have this lined up and taken care of soon - best part about it, swapping just the eloctro-magnet clutch, you do not have to recharge the unit - cost is about 1/4th I think, of the whole new unit :cool

I hope this helps :m

O.K., update time...

I got the part and mad my mechanic check it out - longer tail on the harness and he said it should be the one :cool

Price was $475 and I got it for a bit over $100 off that :cool

FWIW, the whole unit was well over $800 - I think it was just shy of nine :eek

Hope to have this worked out over the weekend, or at least y the new year ;)

...stay tuned :w
