A/C or Heater Control Panel Lamp

Driving at night and not being able to see where the heater controls are, is a real pain. Does anyone know if the A/C or Heater Control in an '81 has a lamp bulb to illuminate the panel? The shop where I take my vette doesn't seem to think so. I find it odd that there isn't one, at least none that I can see.

I don't recall seeing one this moring on mine. my console is pretty torn apart. There is a bulb down towards teh back right of the shifter. I haven't a clue wehre it is suppose to go.

The light for the "heater/air-condition" control is in the dash ABOVE the gages, clock, oil press etc.. it is a light with a magnify tip on it to concentrate the light to the controls

You will need to loosen the basel around the dash instruments, and be very careful to remove the top portion to access the light bulb. Most I've seen have very sharp sheet metal around the fixture and easily cut the dash if forced out.

The bulb number should be at the Registry site, I don't recall where right off hand maybe the specs pages, there is a list of all bulbs by GM number. You'll probably have to order this bulb from one of the aftermarket vendors or maybe a Corvette Shop/Garage close to where you are.

PS.. These aren't cheap, I've seen them from anywhere from $3 ~ $10 I believe they are refered to as a "Map Light"

quik fix

i just replaced my bulb with a brighter bulb from napa and pulled out the small piece of blue plastic that covered the light. it stopped almost allt he light from moving thru. it now projects a beam down where the controls are at. it isnt the best, but i can find them now without changing the radio station or moving the time 3 hours forward on my clock.
