Hi all,

Well, just back from 6 months in beautiful Kuwait. It's great to be home. I pulled the cover off Bluvet yesterday. She needed a jump start and off I went. I reset the temp control and all it's blowing is warm air. It sat the entire 6 months and I'm wondering if I'm looking at a leak or what? Any ideas?

Maybe you need to recharge the system.....and have the shop check for any leaks.....
By the way Welcome Home......
You guys did well "In Country"....

Chances are that the seals in the compressor or maybe one of the hose seals had deteriorated to the point that enough refrigerant had leaked out so the system will not operate.

I would have the system (especially the compressor) checked, the receiver/dryer replaced and the system purged and new R-12 and oil installed. The shop should add a leak checker so that if it quits working again from a loss of R-12, they can find the leak.

I run my A/C monthly in the winter when the air temps are high enough to get it to operate so that the seals will stay soft and pliable and won't leak.

Have your local A/C shop do a service an evacuate and recover, then check for leaks like the above nice people mentioned. if you are using R-12, then you can ask the shop to either do the conversion to R-34 or use freeze 12 which is a repacement for the older model a/c units that use R -12

Hi again,

Thanks for all the great advice. It turns out it was leak at the cycle switch. Repaired at the local Chevy dealer.

Thanks again and it's great to be home!

It is a good idea to run the AC on a warm day in the winter months. A lot of leak problems come from the open drive (compressor) that is used. Freon is very missable with oil, oil flows throughout the entire system. This oil keeps the seals lubed on the compressor driveshaft. If they dry out, which they can from non use, you can lose gas. Freon is very hard to contain and this step is critical to maintaining the system. In some cases you may not find a leak after filling and running the AC, the seals are relubricated and they expand narrowing the gap for gas leaks.:D
