the stiock heads, cam, and intake on the crossfire corvettes strangles the engine airflow and potential hp.

like Ive said before, swap to parts that flow a much higher amount of air and your hp will go way up, but an engine is a system of inter-dependent parts working together, as a system. you can,t just swap one or two parts youll need all three and full length headers would also be a big help
SY-1 with custom lid (EDELBROCK SMOKEY RAM BASE) (flows about 280cfm as opposed to the stock 190cfm)
CRANE 114142 cam (still mild enought to work with stock chip but allows significantly better flow thru the heads)
AFR 190-195cc heads (flows about 260cfm versus the stock flow of about 190cfm)
an EASY 100-115HP BOOST over the stock intake/heads,cam
if you want even more power add a 383 high compression engine kit and yes you do need a custom built lid for the crossfire throttle bodies to work on the SY1 lower intake but the hp differance is amazing, and yes the SY1 intake is ONLY available used as its currently out of production
look at combo #15,#16,#17

here's the stock performance at best

1984 Corvette Performance Numbers - Corvette Action Center

DD2000 guesses at a hp/ tq of 420hp/425 tq with the heads,SY1 intake ,cam and better compression from the heads
now thats not likely but that easy 100-115hp improvement is a cinch to get PROVIDED YOU INSTALL THE COMPLETE COMBO
of either 190cc heads/195cc intake port 68cc chamber (BETTER) cam, modified SY1 and thin head gasket, look call AFR ask them if they think their heads, a SY1 intake and a CRANE 114142 cam plus a slight boost in compression can give your car a 115hp boost over the stock engine,

tel: 818-890-0616

BTW the AFR part# is 1018 for the 190cc and they cost about $1250 and they also estimate that youll be gaining WELL OVER 150hp

I hate to be the voice of reason and my wife says that I never am, but wouldn’t a crate engine be cheaper/easier/quicker and more dependable.:hb

if you stick that stock crossfire intake on a 400hp plus 383 crate engine it will absolutely KILL YOUR HP POTENTIAL
if you want a nice crate engine , buy this short block, add what you can from your corvette engines parts

add the afr 68cc heads crane 114142 cam and sy1 custom intake intake, youll be way ahead power wise, its fast and easy but costs slightly more. remember its the engines displacement, heads air flow potential, cam, intake and compression ratio as a combo that controlls to a large extent the potential hp/tq

Every little bit helps on our lowly CrossFire vettes....
We are the lost child of all the C4's....so we try harder......
