2002 Torch Red vert
Hi There! I've been lurking for a couple of mos and just joined today. This board is great! it helped me in my decision to buy my '02 Torch Red vert! Hence my name: Redtorcher. I've only owned one other vette-a 1957 -about million years ago .I paid $1,200 for it and thought it was the most beautiful auto in the world. It didn't run beautifully tho- Had it for 2 yrs and traded it in for a new 1964 Chevy 11 [plus, I gave dealer $500 cash.] Kind of makes you sick-huh? That same '57 now sits in a friend's garage only 6 miles from my home. It has not run since 1980 and needs a complete restoration. He bought it for $1,500 from the carlot I traded it in to!
Anyway to update to now. My C5 is definitely the best looking AND best running sports car I've ever owned. You guys can help me out w/ 2 ques if you don't mind.
1] It came w/ brand new Falken 452's on it. What do you do for a spare since these are not run flat. Is AAA the only answer?
2]Who has the best non GM extended warrenty? I tried GM but-GM won't pick up on it because the orig owner let the GM warrenty expire a year ago. Thanks for the help!:D

Question #1 on tires ,your pretty much hit it on the nose .Second question "I don't know"

Last but not least --WELCOME

Welcome to the CAC!

Enjoy!

Welcome and congrats on your C5... hopefully you'll get more enjoyment this time around.

A search using the keyword "warranty" should yield lots of results for recommendations.

welcome to CAC!!!:welcome
enjoy!!!

Congrats on your C5 Vette...

...welcome to the :CAC

Pretty sure C5 Z06's came without runflats/spares: I think they had a Patch/Repair kit, maybe 1 of them will work for you.

I run without warranty, it cost me a little repair money every now and then, but heck it's heading for 10 years old.

BTW - Roadster's Rule! :w

Another c-5 tire question

I appreciate the warm welcomes! This forum has a wealth of great people with great info!
Another ques. If I used a Z06 tire repair kit to inflate non run flat tires on my C5-won't that damage the air pressure sensor?
Also-Could anyone w/a C5 w/ an aftermarket warrenty steer me in the right direction? The GMPP warrenty expired w/ the previous owner and it can't be reactivated. Thanks for your help!:D

I am not an expert by no means but I would think so.

Welcome abord. I have a black/lt oak '02 vert with Goodyear GSD3s. Check out Tire Rack for the ContiCareKit. I carry that. It is a compressor that runs off of you aux power or cig lighter and it has a tire sealer that it can inject into the tire to seal it. This sealer does not ruin the sensors according to the manufacturer-it peels off. I also have roadside assistance just in case.

Thanks for the lead, Bonnell!
When I checked out their website it does say-" Use of the sealant may damage the pressure monitor" Oh well!
I did reup my. AAA membership however.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a radar/laser detector?
ANNNND..I'm still waiting for some good member to recommend a non GMPP warrenty..Bueller? Bueller? Anybody??

RT, for electronic countermeasures :chuckle you may want to read through this thread: Click me

As for post GMPP warranties, I'd recommend the one I have - or had - they've paid well in the past, but I just discovered the company disappeared with 12,000 miles left on my warranty. :eyerole

I'd recommend doing a CAC search with "warranty" as your key word.

Wow, I missed that about the possible damage to the sensor. I did get a recommendation from another member who said that it did not damage his when he used it. Good luck and welcome aboard.:w
