A Red GS?

Hey y’all. I haven’t posted here much and not for a long time so you probably don’t remember me. I bought a red ‘96 LT4 some months back and posted a pic here.

The bad news is I had a bumper bender in my Vette…*crying* Well since Corvette bumpers and Hoods don’t bend, lets call in a breaker. I’m sick.

The good news is it seems fine mechanically and with a new bumper and hood should be good as new.

Anyway to my question. Since I have to do these repairs anyway should I take the opportunity the customize my car? I saw a Red GS pic posted somewhere…here maybe…. and thought it looked great. As I understood it, it was a real GS that the owner painted red…stripe included.*

So I was thinking, My LT4 is a GS with the exception of the paint, flares, wheels and brake calipers. Would it be “wrong” to make a fake red GS? If not a GS look then I was thinking of a custom (Stalker) bumper and maybe a low profile wing. Or should I just leave it stock….I’m torn.

Thanks for any and all opinions.

* edit It was here that I saw it "lt4gs"'s car. As I recall I sent him an e-mail about it and if I remeber right it IS a GS painted Red 1 of 1.
If I make a fake one would it be 1 of 2?...or 1 of 1 fake Red GS?

I think a silver stripe would look great. I'm not sure about white.... don't think I'd like that.

Do it. Nothing wrong with a fake GS. Do you know how many fake '63 Grand Sport's replicas there are?

He's a liar. Or, sadly misled.

Some people don't take too kindly to being called a liar; being sadly misled as you second-guessed, would be much more appropriate, and I'm sure more appreciated, in this forum. ;)

Obviously, I have no problem with a red GS. :)

Or even an original LT1 converted to LT4. I don't have GS markings on my car anywhere though.

Thanks for the replies, it's helped alot!

Just to clairify though:

He's a liar. Or, sadly misled.

You might have misunderstood what I said. And you will have to ask lt4 gs to be sure...but as I remember it he told me he painted his GS red...not that it came that way. We all know there were no Red GS from the factory.

I have seen pictures of a black GS as well...it WAS a clone I believe...."clone".....now that sounds sooo much better then fake....;)

Thnaks again! :s

Krash57...

I've thought of doing the exact same thing. I think it looks great in red as well as blue. The '96 GS is one of my all-time favorite cars - and it's my reverence and respect for the car that will prevent me from doing it. IMHO.

I'm sure he'll chime in to explain, but as far as I remember reading, it was NOT an original gs, but a car he painted with a gs scheme except it was with red and a white stripe. He calls it a red gs and says 1 of 1, but openly admits that it is not a gs, but his own creation. I do think it is a LT4 equiped car. I don't know him, but remember reading this from previous attacks on his car.

I'm doing it....will post pics in a few weeks....:D

Okay, I'm not too sure what words to use without insulting anyone. To but it bluntly, just because your vette has an LT4, that does not make it GS anything. I'm not sure if you have been mislead or something.
Maybe I'm just reading your post incorrectly?

But it's your vette. Call it what you want. I'd hate to see you caught in a situation where you are telling people you have a red GS, you would get the weirdest looks from people.

No offense taken....

But you have obviously NOT read my posts correctly.

I have NEVER said my car was a Grand Sport....what I said was I would like to paint it in a Grand Sport theme because I have seen it done before and think it looks great! I would NEVER try to pass it off as a REAL Grand Sport.....just a "Clone"

I have seen many Corvettes of all kind of colors painted as a Grand Sport...and they ALL look good to me.....even Mid America put Grand Sport hash marks on the last C4 ever made....and it is NOT a Grand Sport.

Sure there will be some who think you should not change anything about a Corvette...and with some Vettes I would agree...but does that mean you shouldn't change the factory exhaust.....or even the air filter?.

I will NOT put Grand Sport tags on the car...I will just have a car that is uniquley mine.

I respect those that want to keep thier Vettes original however and like I said take no offense if they don't not approve of what I have decided to do to MY car.

Thanks for all your opinions! :cool

Sounds like a great idea to me. An LT4 is one of my top choices for me next vette. I've thought about painting one in a GS theme. As long as you don't try to pass it off as a real GS and always maintain that it is a custom paint, I see absolutly nothing wrong with it.

I would also like to say that you made the right choice. Red GS vs Stalker bumper and spoiler...you gotta go with the GS!!!

Krash, you, me and everyone else here knows deep in our hearts that the looks and performance of the vette is what captures and holds the imagination and thrill of ownership of this fine automobile. I, too, have entertained the idea of a white skunk stripe and hash marks. I say do it, enjoy it, and know that you do achieve not only looks but a small degree of better handling with the larger tires. I want to know the outcome as I may still go that route although I will keep the same wheels and no fender flares at this time. Best of luck to you, fellow.

By the way, while in high school in 1969, I totalled my '64 vette. A friend with a '67 big block started calling me 'Krash'. Good name, just don't take it too seriously. Not enough vettes in the world as it is!

If you do it I too would think about the red w/silver stripe. That would be b*i*t*c*h*i*n.

LOL..well I too "earned" my nick name. In my youth I had accidents in a "57 chevy, '68 Toronado, and a '63 Corvette Vert.

I was hoping that I would not live up to that nick anymore...and I was doing a go job till this latest incident.

I am doing the flares, hash marks and wheels...and still undecided about the skunk stripe...thinking of white, black or none at this point....you we see what I did soon.

Thanks again guys!:D

When I read about guys doing stripes and hash marks, not to mention body kits....well, the term "guilding the lily" comes to mind.

You consider the Grand Sport a "guilded lilly"?

(I agree about the body kits and I will add spoilers to that.)
