HELLO ALL, just wondering, if i shift manually on my auto tranny will that damage the inner workings?

Only if you hold it to long before shifting. If the pressure get to hogh for to long damage can occur from the added pressure and heat it cuases.

One of the VERY FEW remaining original parts on my car is the tranny. I just can't get the darn thing to blow up... I have been shifting the AT likes it's a stick for 7 years... no problems (yet).

I figure it saves a bit on the brakes as well. At least that is what I tell my wife.

BRIAN &GARY, thanks for the info. i was playing around on the drive to an from work. experimenting with letting the motor run up farther (mid rpm range) then up shifting. plus in certain corners leaving it in 2nd. made the drive lot more fun.
too bad SHAQ O'NEAL wasn't home i'm sure he'd enjoyed hearing me blast by his house...lol
yeah, i'd like an excuse for getting a new TREMEC,but no funds for that....

best to you all

Other than giving your right hand something to do while driving, why would you? Unless you were driving in snow.:SLAP :SLAP

BRUSSO, i can keep the engine it its power spot. seem like the engine pulls real good between 2500-4000 .thus i can control where i want to shift. otherwise the tranny tends to shift too early when i want to have some fun.

Oh, so to hold the low gears longer. I get it! I thought ,at first, that you were trying to upshift. An auto tranny wont let you do that. I mean shift into a high gear before it normally would.

Robin,

If you really like shifting it all the time, talk to B&M about a full manual valve body. Then it will only shift or go into the gear you put it in. No more auto shifting; It's like have a stick without the clutch. I had one in my 4x4 off-road racer, Sorry but it was a FORD. ;shrug It did work very well; shifted as hard as a stick just faster and no clutch to worry about.
