It was bound to happen one day — it appears the freegin water pump has sprung a leak! A small, slow drip —— with the engine running at idle. Question, how can I be absolutely positive that the drip is coming from the water pump? This past summer, I went through hell putting new wires on my '94. My first experience doing that. Man, I sure as the devil ain't up to pulling all that stuff off again. So, I'm going to ask a stupid question. And everyone that knows me knows I ain't stupid.:ugh OK here goes. Can I use Stop Leak temporarily? Have any of you tried such an application? The weather is changing and I'll be working outside if I dare to do it myself. I'm awfully tempted to take it to the man ("The Dealer"). "Duun Duun"! Can anyone of you estimate the cost if the shop does the job? Bare with y'all. Thanks ;help

Book time is 2.6 to 2.8 hours to R&R the pump. Be sure to use a shop that isn't afraid of Vettes or you may not like the results. Stop leak will have no effect on a water pump leak as it can not repair a bad seal or worn bearing. Now is also the time to be sure the OptiSpark is in good shape as the leaky water pump has a bad habit of destroying them. If the Opti is still working well do NOT put off replacing the pump.

Just for info - I had a leak like that and it turned out not to be the water pump. It was a heater hose. The leak steadily got worse until one day it was bad enough that I lost most of the coolant and had to get a flatbed to take me to my mechanic. So.... I recommend having it looked at by someone who knows Vette's.

With the engine turned off and coolant hot, take a small articulating mirror (like a dentists) and quality flashlight with good batteries, and check for any coolant coming out of the water pump weep hole that is directly under the water pump snout and behind the drive pulley.

I am having the exact same issue. I can't find any leaks so I'm taking it in today to have a shop find the leak. I suspect it's the water pump and I don't want to tackle it myself.
