Good morning all out there on the internet. My ABS/Traction Control check system warning has popped on twice in the last week and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. First time I drove it back home and the next time I started the car the warnings were off. Today when going out for coffee, they are on again and have stayed on. The car is an 02 Automatic with 8500 miles on the clock. Any insight would be appreciated. I am calling the dealer this morning to schedule an appt and hopefully get it cleared. Thanks

RJ,
I experienced this problem over the summer when coming back from Bowling Green. I was in a torrential downpour just outside Kansas City, and I began to get all sorts of flashing lights the Traction Control System was active. Notwithstanding that, the car was still experiencing some fishtailing. In my case, it came down to the fact that my tires had gotten really bald, and were somewhat under-inflated.

At only 8500 miles, you should not be getting that error message, but I would recommend you start your troubleshooting by taking a look at your current tire pressure. (Always start with the simple stuff and move on from there.)

I recently experienced that on my 2000. I got the traction control and the active handling warnings. The dealer checked it out and reported that the EBTCM module was not producing a torque signal, so they replaced it. Like you, I was getting the error sometimes and other times not. Fortunately for me, my extended warranty covered it.

Mine does it sometimes when I cross RR tracks, gmjunkie told me to clean the connections to the sensors with contact cleaner but I haven't put it up on the lift to do it yet.

Mine did that last week. It was very strange. Peferectly dry day. (I don't drive it in the rain) I stopped at a deli on the way to work to get and breakfast sandwich and coffee. When I left, the DIC had the check traction sys warning and it was on 'till I got to work. I was going to swing by the dealers after work but when I got in it - no light or warnings and hasn't been any since.
