I got a 72 Vette with an AC compressor problem. It is seized I think. It won't turn a single inch!! This is no belt on it currently. Is this a typical problem for old AC technology?
Similar problem with mine. The clutch assembly seized while driving (without the A/C on) and all the friction from the belt still spinning it made it catch fire. My father in law is an A/C guy and says that it appears only the clutch assembly needs replacement, not the whole compressor.
Make sure that you flush the system. If the compressor seized, it may have put metal shavings into the system. These shavings will eventually destroy the new compressor.
