Hi guys, does teh evaporator on our AC systems ever go bad? I have mine out and I dont see any damage. Can I put some pressure to it and check for leaks? And if so what amount of pressure.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,
Unless I'm mistaken, the only way for an evaporator to go bad is if it develops a leak like you mentioned. And this does happen from time to time. You can pressurize it to check for leaks. I believe the evaporator will normally see in excess of 100 PSI during normal operation, but let's see what others say about that. So if you find a safe way to put between 50 and 75 PSI to it, that should work. You could probably take it to a radiator shop if you would rather do that, and let them pressure test ot for you.

Thanks, I have seen things about flushing the old oil out. What should I use to do this. If possible I would like to keep the evaporator since its 290.00 bucks.

There are kits available for flushing A/C systems. Any auto parts store should have them. Although the dishwasher might be tempting...:L

Yep, they work just like the heater core but under much higher pressures, so they can develop leaks.
