Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the Accel HEI coil with Ylw/red wires and the one with red/white wires?

Oh! I also forgot to ask, if they are interchangeable? Anyone?

Everything I have seen for aftermarket coils (not necessarily ACCELL) show that the L98 cars take the coil with the red/white wires. It may be a voltage difference issue or ohms difference.

There has to be enough of a difference between the two in order for aftermarket coil makes to offer different versions. The wires are the same length, the connectors are the same size, and the coil bodies sit in the same cap so the difference has to be electrical.

I added a Super Coil and I didn't notice any real difference in performance in my 87. I have a cam and some head work, but with the stock TPI runners, the engine won't really rev high enough to need the extra voltage over what a good stock coil will produce. Low resistance wires such as MSD Super Conductors will probably be a better deal over my current stock AC-Delco wires.

I believe its the phaseing of the voltage output (not sure)

However they are not interchangeable and the wrong one will not work correctly. C4 cruse is right about the need to replace the original so if it's not broken or modified to rev higher no gain will be realized by changing the coil!

i run an accel and noticed a big difference especially tuning in the timing.

when i'm at the shop in the morning and i can remember i'll look.

the one i got said all GM V8's upto 91 (i think) except corvettes. i bought it anyway and could only tell you it was sort of a pita to fit it on cause of the rubber gasket but once it's on your good. i been running mine for about 6 months now with no problems.

i also heard that they don't like high heat from the engine. i overcame the problem by cutting 6 inches of the gasket out 1 inch down on each side roughly 3 inches from the center of the distributor to vent the heat away from the distributor itself and also to just release the heat since our C4's hold it so well.

Guy's I forgot to mention one thing you can cut the gray plastic off an accell coil and it looks and fits just like stock! put he old coil cover on it and the plenum extension ........ no one can tell!
