Acceleration Delay

I own a 2002 automatic convertible which, I think, has a problem.
Traveling at 30 to 50 mph, when I accelerate quickly (stomp on the gas), I hear engine rev but there is a hesitation before the car picks up speed. It is like the car taking a deep breath before taking off.

I drove my friends 2002 automatic and did not experience this.

Took the car to Chevy and was told by the Vette mechanic that this is the way the car is supposed to respond.

Has anyone experience this? Is it a transmission problem?

Thanks

Lou,

At those speeds, it will not downshift into first gear, so it's stuck with staying in second. The revving is the torque converter locking out. I don't know if yours is normal, but that's what mine does.

First off, Welcome to the :CAC It is probably just the kickdown of the transmission. I am sure it is different, but on my 87 the kickdown into first ends at about 18 or so I think. After that it just kicks down into second, but that doesn't stop me from manually downshifting it into first :D

Thank you for your replies. It helps to hear from fellow Vette owners that it doesn't look like I have a problem.
