I was going to add the power seat and have obtained all the necessary parts; working power seat rail, switch, harness, but now I have read that the floor pan is deeper for the cars that had this option to make up for the taller seat rail.

Is this really true? :confused

Has anyone added the power seat option?

Does anyone want to buy a complete working power seat???

Thanks,
Lanny

Lanny,

I can't say for sure but it's no big deal to remove your seat, give it a try and then mount the new one to see if it fits. To take the seat out is just 4 bolts from underneath the car, can be done in 5 minutes tops. There are some shots of the drivers side floor pan here if you need to look; http://www.c3sharktank.com/tech2/carpet/carpet1.html

It's nice to have the power seat.

I have a power seat for my 1980 corvette, but have not installed
it yet, let me know how it goes.

Scott81,

Yes I know the seat comes out; I have had the seats out when I redid the interior. I know the seat rail bolts line-up and all, it is just the height of the floor pan that I was told is going to put the entire seat up higher. This might be okay for someone shorter than me, but not for me.

cscarlson,
As far as putting the power seat into an '80: the power seat was not an option until '81 so the '80 is not going to have the power harness under the seat like the '81's and '82's do. Of course it is just +12V and Gnd, so not to tough to add. But you are going to have the same possible problem that I am asking about regrading the height of the floor pan.

I am not going to replace the floor pan just to add the power seat. Just too much work.

Power seats would be cool, but then I think...maybe not. No one else will drive this car but me. (my wife may drive it once or so) Not really enough to warrant it. But that's just me.

my 80 corvette does have the power harness under the seat....

haha, I agree. Power seats are nice, but who's going to get to use it? Not I because I'm the only driver!

Lanny, Have you gotten an answer on floor pan depth? If you like I'll be happy to take a measurement of my floor pan. I have a power seat and it's out now. If I don't get an accurate reading with the rug down I can take the rug up for you...really isn't that big of a deal. Let me know.

jdads2,
No I have no information on the seat floor pans. If you could somehow measure the depth of the pan and let me know where your reference point is, I could compare it against mine. That would be a big help.

cscarlson,
So you have the power seat connector in your '80?? Well, there you are....so much for the information I have read!!:eyerole

I know I read somewhere that '81 was the first year the power seat was offered, so I just assumed that the power connector for the power seat would not be there in an '80. :crazy

Are you sure you do not have an '81??

I may just get lucky this weekend and get the headlight switch replaced and my fuel gauge working again to have time to pull the seat out and put the power rails in with the lower seat bucket and do some measuring.

Thanks for all the responses,
Lanny

NO.. MY CORVETTE IS A 1980.. i bought the power seat off of a friend and found the power connector under my seat, haven't put the seat in yet.

Lanny,
It going to be nice here tomorrow. I'll get out there and take a look.

Is there any reason why I couldn't measure my power seat unit height? At least you can compare that against your non-power seat bracket.

Measurements are from lower bracket where seat bolt is attached (it does not include length of bolt), to upper bracket where the seat attaches.

Front left 3 1/2"
Back left 3 3/8"

It wouldn't surprise me if these measurements vary from seat to seat but I would imagine it would not be substantial.

If you would like me to get a depth of the well, let me know. I'll have to pull up the rug but the seats are already out so that won't be a problem.

Dave

not sure about the seat pan, but the power option does allow the seat to move up and down, so perhaps....

as for having power seats and not using them, that i don't get...

don't you all get tired of being in teh same position on a long drive or just need to adjust it every now and then. I do.

good luck

Measured the seat height on the non-power seat rail and the numbers are pretty much the same......soooooo I think the power seat will fit with no problems......:)

Now if I could only figure out what is going on with my fuel gauge???? (See post on wacky fuel gauge)
