can I adjust the advance on the distributer? where the vacume advance canister is on the distributer, I believe you can adjust it with a allen head, not sure if this is true, or wich way to turn for advance and retard... it's an after market electronic ignition.....

There are three different kinds of advance; initial, which is adjusted by turning the entire distributor housing with respect to the engine, centrifugal, which is determined by the weights and springs under the rotor and responds only to engine rpm, and vacuum, which adds or removes advance based only on engine load (throttle position).

If you have an aftermarket distributor with an adjustable vacuum advance, most of them accept a 3/32" allen wrench; however, that adjustment just varies the tension on the return spring for the diaphragm, which alters its sensitivity to a vacuum signal. The vacuum advance only operates at idle and at cruise; it has nothing to do with initial or centrifugal advance. Find out what brand of distributor you have and contact the manufacturer's tech line or website to get instructions for exactly what the adjustment does.
