Advancing-retarding cam

What effect if any does advancing or retarding a cam have on idle quality? I know that advancing moves the power range alittle lower, but does it also make for a smoother idle? Thanks

all depends on your profile. some cams it helps others it hurts.

Advancing the cam improves bottom end and retarding the cam kills some of the bottom but improves top end. Nothing noticeable at idle. Best choice is straight up, 0.
