76 Sting

Guest
Hey guys,

I just joined a few months ago and need to ask my first of many questions. My 1976 is in need of a new hood so I decided to by one from Ecklers (non stock). It is a stinger hood seen below. Personally I like the looks of the hood and wondering if any of you had any luck with their hoods. If you have delt with them before or any after market hood company have you ever run into problems with it not fitting correctly?

I just do not want to buy a hood and spend another few thousand getting painted and to fit correctly. The hood below is $700 with shipping and I am est. another $1000 to paint and mount.

Notes:

1 yr old 90 corvette red paint (looks the same as the picture except the exaust and the current hood is stock)

Body is perfect!

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Bolt-On Installation For 1973-76 Models

1967 "427" Big Block Styling

Minor Mods Required For 1968-72 Models

Create a new and exciting look for your 1968-76 model Corvette with the classic big block style hood design. The hood is a bolt-on installation for 1973-76 models and requires removal of the wiper door and minor fiberglass additions to reshape the corners of the hood to blend with the fenders on 1968-72 models. Each hood is ready for sanding, priming, and painting. This hood carries patent # 353-124.

i went for the L-82 high rise hood from Ecklers. it fit great, and only cost about $300 to get painted. Ecklers has the best fitting fiberglass from all i have heard. hope it works out great for you. Brian

I've seen pics of this hood on C3's. Looks great. I think there was a post with either "stinger hood" or "body shop" in the title that had a bunch of pics of them if you search the C3 forums. If you decide to get it please post a few pics when it's done. Also, let us know how much extra clearance you get under it. As I recall it's supposed to give you quite a bit.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I will definately post a pic as soon as its done.

I think "Maineshark" has the stinger hood on his C3...

I saw a Bright Yellow '74-'77 today, with a Black 'Stinger stripe' down it;
very cool!

It is NOT a 'functional' scoop, but looks like it could be fairly easily opened-up...

My concern is height, as I hope to one day build late-C3 with a BBC for drag racing purposes, and would rather NOT put a big 'snorkel' scoop on it...

Got it!!! his vette did look awesome and I am e-mailing in a few minutes.

I have heard some bad news that worries me a little from someone that has tried this 3 times before and all 3 hoods needed a lot of work like matching up corners, and waves in the hood, so I am a little worried. I do not want to spend $650 on a hood and then spend another $500 getting it to fit and work out any imperfections even before I paint.

I am buying the hood today... this hood is too nice and I have to take a chance and hope it does not need much work.

I will let everyone now how I made out as soon as I get in and try to mount it on.

Thanks
