First off,Mobil One oil filters are THE BEST.I learned that here!

:CAC

Anyfoo,I was greasing the ball joints and noticed all the rubber that holds the grease in was busted.:cry

According to my service manual the ball joints are still good ie.the zerk has not slipped down into the housing. If they have slipped,it is not clearly obvious.

So,can the seals be replaced or am I going to be required to replace the ball joint assemblys completely?

And what I ain't never been learnt is...

How do you know when to stop injecting grease into a joint, short of blowing the seals out?Like ..uh ..maybe I ..uh...*might*have done.(admitting no guilt:t)

For now, grease every hundred miles until I figure out what to do I guess.:w

FYI:120,000 miles

OK OK
So I was a bit :drink when I posted the title.

Help me out here,huh?

:w

Howdy,
From what I have heard when greasing the ball joints, just enough grease to firm up the rubber seals. Apparently you don't have to worry about that now. I'd call a front mech & see what advice he can give. Remember just one or two pumps on the grease gun shud be anuff.:gap

I replaced torn ball joint rubbers on my 94 and it was easy. You can buy replacement rubber boots in those red "HELP" packages in the auto parts store.

Popping the ball joint apart is the on hard part but turned out to be easy. We just jacked up the car, took off the wheel and placed a jack under the A frame just enuff to support the lower A frame. Then just take off the nut and a few taps with a plastic mallet and the joint just popped apart. Stick on the new rubber boot and put the nut back on.

Be careful with the mallet and make sure its a plastic or leather mallet. You are hitting aluminium so be gentle.

Every 3K to 5K miles should be fine and than only a pump or two, if it starts to come out then its time to stop

You can buy replacement rubber boots

That is the best news I have had in quite some time!:)

That will save me a ton of money!I didn't know they could be replaced.

A quick check in the Ecklers catalog shows polyurethane replacements for $7.99 a pair.:dance

Right next to them is the front end rebuild kit for $419.99

You made my day resto 75.Here ya go ;worship

Thanks a bunch!:w
