LA Vette,
Are you the original owner of your '97? The reason I ask is this- back in the early 90's, I had a Camaro with airbags, and was in an accident. Even after the accident damage was fixed, because the airbag had deployed, the light was on, and it could not be extinguished until it was taken into the dealership and reset. I don't know if that's still the case with the airbag light or not, but if you aren't the original owner of the car, you may want to see if the car has even been involved in an accident.

I think it is very important to have that diagnosed as son as possible. That signals a potential problem with safety equipment. You do not want that bag to deploy at the wrong time, or fail to deploy when it should.

Could it just be turned off in the glove compartment?

Thanks for your responses on my Air Bag light question.
I have had this car about 5 years and have all of the original service documents with no accidents indicated. Also the 97's don't have a switch in the glove box which eliminates that possibile fix. This problem happened recently, after I changed the car battery, so maybe that had something to do with it
It looks like I may have to take it into the Chevy dealer and have them check it out.

c4c5, what codes apply to the Air Bag system?
The list I have dosen't list any specificaly for the Air Bag. When I checked codes they all had an "H" behind them that indicates that they are no longer an issue.
Thanks for the help.

HI there,
SDM will appear when you check your codes.
Whatever codes are in the SDM, please post them here.

Sorry for the delay on this response. I only found 4 codes when I rechecked today.
10-PCM---P1431 & P1571
28-TCS---C1255
80-Radio--U1016
I have also checked the wiring and found no problems.
A friend was trying to hook up my new "Valentine" and tapped into a small yellow wire with the connecter they supplied but it the rader dectector turned off when the car was put in gear. I unhooked it and plugged in to a blank socket in the fuse box which worked great. (I checked the yellow wire today and it was not severed or pulled loose)
F you have any suggestions I would sure appreciate them.

Hi there,
If you could show me via a pic of the yellow wire you used, it would be good.
Fact is that if it has a yellow connector and wiring loom, THAT IS AN AIRBAG CIRCUIT.
Please post a pic, so we can assist further.
