Air Box Cover Swap

I have searched the forum to no avail. I bought a Z06 air box cover and K&N air filter for my baby. The K&N was no problem to install though I still have to install the supplied seal.

My real question is this - how do I take off the old air box cover to replace it with my new one? It doesn't look too difficult but I am wanting to know what I need to disconnect to replace the cover.

Air cleaners were so much easier when they were on top of the engine!

f you are supposed to take it off I didn't. Just undid the straps and pulled out the carrier. It didn't appear the cover could be pulled out.

I could be missing something.

You don't need to completely remove the cover just to change the air filter.

To remove the cover you first need to remove the air filter and carrier just like you already have done.

Then, go to the front of the car and look down the gap between the hood an bumper cover. You will see two studs that connect the cover to the car body. These studs have rubber grommets in them to help hold the cover secure. You need to pry the bottom of the cover off these studs; it will be a little stiff, so don't be afraid to use a little muscle. Once you've got the cover off the studs, then go to the backside of the hood and pull up and to the rear to remove the cover; you'll have to twist, jiggle, and pull to get it out; again, don't be afraid you use a little muscle to do this.

Don't worry about the seal w/the K & N filter. I never put it on mine & I've had no problems.

Air Box Swap

Thank John And Donna for the outstanding info.
The swap takes about 5 min. and is worth it. I'm running the Z06 airbox and a K&N in my vert. I think it is comparable to a blackwing at a third of the cost!

Reading posts about changing K&N filters and Air Boxes got me curious.

I've seen the Air Flow Sensor that's rated at 1000 CFM (stock is 640 CFM) and a Dual K&N Filter system all for the C5. I found them online at WestcoastCorvette.com.

These two mods at 8 & 15 HP respectivly. Has anyone made these mods? Are they worth the effort and expense?

Just keep in mind - more air in needs more air out.

Something that lets that much air in would certainly require exhaust mods to take advantage of the increased capacity.
