when i turn on the ac the pump cycles in and out (1-2 secs) is this normal?
the temp in cal is around 61 and with it set at the lowest temp it does this!
is there a temp control module problem or is it just too cold for it to stay on or is it something else?
thanking u in advance
russ

i set it at the lowest temp the car appears to have a charge There is pressure in the system

sounds like low charge or a bad cycling switch :_rock :w steve

You say it appears to have a charge....you really have to put gauges on it to tell. In cold weather it will cycle due to insufficient pressures. I wouldn't run it in the cold anyway (even if it does have an ambient switch). Liquid migrates throughout the system on a cold day, the pump is a gas pump not liquid pump and it could hurt or destroy the compressor. Wait for a hot day and put gauges on it....that's your best bet.

If the car is just sitting with the hood up, this is normal. If you have a way to check the outlet air temp while running. It would be in the low 50's or 40's on a cool day. If not, it may be low charge. If it has 134, you can but a inexpensive gauge from any auto store and check the charge. Good luck. Wish it were 61 here, last week the high was in the low 20's

HEY ratfink my 86 started doing the same thing,i had the system checked and pressure was good, when i put my fan speed up past 6 "climate control" it seems to run steady i posted here and someone said it could be the a/c controller mod,i bought a chilton repair manual to find out where it is located but of course they do not address the a/c system because of the potential risk of death or injury.Let me know how you make out
