Is the air just blowing out of all the vents at the same time no matter where you have the selector, or is the fan not speeding up when you set to high?

If it is the first, it is a vacuum leak somewhere. Either directly behind the intake in between the firewall and motor, or somewhere under the battery.

If it is the second... :confused

Yes it is blowing out of all vents no matter where you set it .How do i go about tracking down the vacuum leak.Any help will be appreciated very much.

The first place that I would look is under the battery. You will need to take out the battery and the tray just below it. The batteries in 1997- about 2000 are famous for leaking acid onto the wiring harness just below the battery. The vacuum line that operates the A/C contol unit also runs in that harness. I speak from personal experience here. The damage can be considerable. I would suggest that you get that battery out of there in any case. This repair was featured in a recent issue of one of the Corvette magazines (Vette, Corvette Fever? I'm not sure which one).

Another place to look at(or your mechanic should look) is the door
gasket that directs the air to the different location in the car. I went through this last year, took my guy several hours to figure it out. They even replaced the blower moter thinking that was the problem. It wasn't. The allignment of the door and gaskets were not right and over time(5years) the gasket let air bypass the direction it was supposed to go in.
TGF GMPP. this repair can be very expensive do to labor cost.
