I blew the high pressure line out on my air conditioner hose, can anyone recommend where to purchase a GOOD ONE THAT FITS? I have one from Doc that doesn't quite fit and is damaged, Zip looks like the same thing in the picture and both look like cheap reproductions.

Bill,

The Last Detail had a lot of that stuff when I was re-doing my a/c.

Thanks Bob, I'll check them out. These darn hoses never fail in the winter!:D

Mine blew on my 78, I bought a new one at Advance Auto, Auto Zone also had them but not in stock, it cost 75 bucks it fit fine, I would reccomend to put a new dryer and orfice tube in while you are at it. It took a couple of hours to install, , I took the hood off, it made it alot easier take the rocker panel off , the overflow bottle out, the bottom of the fender off , hope this helps mytoy

OK mytoy, I'll check them tomorrow. This setup has a "manifold" and two hoses attached but you never know. Thanx for the idea. And I agree about the hood too, we took mine off last night.

Hi Dave,

That's exactly what I did, order a GM replacement locally. Same stuff I got before only without the damage, I couldn't believe it. Apparently they've redesigned the hoses to use R134a to handle the higher pressures and smaller molecule, they're smaller in diameter and very stiff, not flexible at all. They kink and fold when you try to bend them and they don't fit the same. I unstalled it one we just evacuated the system and filled it this morning. So far it's working, the kinks in the hose have come out but I still don't like the fit. We'll see, I hope this works in the long run, buying this R12 once a week is getting old!

Mytoy, I also replaced the VIR valve that contains the dryer as you suggested, I'm not as quick as you, took me way more than 2 hours to get it out.:ugh

Thanks for the tips guys,

Bill

I have an 134A aftermarket system (installed for the previous owner) and the high pressure hose burst the 1st day I turned it on this spring. When I traced everything back I found that they had jumped the wire that was supposed to go to a high/low pressure kick out module. Wired one in with the new dryer and hose and haven't had a problem since. I assume the OEM systems have a kick out and am surprised they still blow hoses. It must falls into the less than expected/paid for column. Not quite equivilent, but my wife is an avid gardener and I must go through 10 gauranteed for life garden hoses every summer--soon I will be on the Home Depot banned for life list. I guess outsourcing 90% of the worlds manufacturing to China may not have been such a good idea after all, ya think?

Yeah, you sure got that right, but we can't seem to convince the politicians, who're supposed to be representing us, that outsourcing the manufacturing jobs in this country and putting the people out of work that vote them in is not a good idea!
I remember reading your post about the blown hose, mine wasen't that catastrophic, just some oil in the engine compartment and on the manifold. It blew right where it's closest to the exhaust manifold so the heat must have gotten to it after 30 years. I'll be lucky if the Delco replacement last half that long!

Take care

I probably have the hose you need. I put a complete Hot Rod Air system in my 73; it is wonderful and cold all of the time. Send me a picture of what you need to kculwell@hesenergy.net and I will check for you. If I have what you need, you can have it for the shipping.
