Air duct on a 78

When I got my 78, it had a 'flexi-tube' going from the air cleaner to the front. It seems like it should go to an air duct. There is no air duct (there are mounting holes though) and I just removed the tube. I was at a Corvette site this morning and saw one for sale. However, it said it was for the L-82. Was there one on the L-48 engine? Or is it interchangeable?

78 L48 has only one air cleaner hose as you know. L82 duct that mounts on the radiator support has 2 hose inlets, one of them tucked down by the A/C compressor. In 79 BOTH engines had the 2 hose inlets in the duct. Mike

There IS an air duct for the L48 but it only has the one inlet, right on top of the radiator.

that is the correct part for a 78 L48 engine. there is a one outlet airscoop that is mounted on top of the radiator and the single snorkle air cleaner is attached to it via a flexible tube about 6 inches or so long. there are also foam pieces that extend outward from the duct on either side of the radiator frame top to block the airflow over the radiator and force it through the air duct to the air cleaner. this is designed to improve cooling by forcing the most air possible through the radiator, not around and over the sides of it.

as a suggestion, whenever you have a parts problem (and you don't have a factory assembly manual, which i suggest you obtain as soon as possible), go to the corvette central web site and do a parts search. they have an awful lot of parts diagram breakdowns as part of their on line parts catalog.
