I was wondering if anyone has used air shocks on the back, i dont want to put new springs on it as i dont think it needs it, but i would like the back to sit a inch or 2 higher, ??

Just use longer bolts in the ends of the springs. VetteBrakes or any of the other vette accesory places handle these. No need for air shocks.

HaHa i see , thank you very much.
steve 1980 white vette soon to be med. gray

yes short bolts to raise it and yes ive used air shocks and i have a set sitting here collecting dust.

Car Body sits lower on one side vs. the other

Anyone have any ideas on how to balance the body?

I have air shocks on my 1976, to do just what you want, rise the body, since them I have discoverd that the best way is to just adjust the spring bolts. When I get my half shafts back in I will adjust the ride hight with the spring bolts. I will leave the air shocks on for a while then replace them.

If your body is not setting level check to make sure that the spring bolt on both sides is adjusted the same. I know the one on my passenage side is lower than the one on the drivers side.

Steve,

You can get some adjustment from the back by adjusting the nut on the spring, each side. If there isn't any thread left then you can change out the bolt. The SHORTER the bolt the more body lift ;) The front is a bit tougher, but a set of new rubber or neoprene in the front sway bar help a bit.

The most effective way is to replace all the body mounting rubber. The front springs have a tendency to weaking and sag over the years, and the 78 ~ 82 needs to have the lower control arm inpsected regularly too. They are prone to the weld breaking on the bottom of the control arm. Seems they went to thinner material in 1978.

I just had my lower control arm brackets welded back to the frame. The drivers side rear bracket came completely off the cross member. The shop said it's because the tack welds from the plant. They put continuous welds on all the brackets and seams from the radiator to the firewall. Did a great job and really firmed up the handling.

Does anyone know where to get the upper rubber mounting pad for the front coil springs? I had my springs out awhile back and the rubber had formed around the top coil? Had a heck of a time getting it out and I'm sure it didn't go back in the same. I can't find the pad in any of our usual suppliers. I'm pretty sure this is affecting my side to side ride leveling.
