Alarm on 2000 vette. Need help.

I have one FOB remote and all of a sudden when I use it it doesnt work. When I hold the lock and unlock buttons down for 20sec or so it resets and then it works but if I dont use it for a few min it goes back to not working and I have to reset it again to make it work for a short time like 1 min or so. Is the brain junk or is the FOB remote bad? I only have one remote so I cant rule that out. Has anyone had this issue and what is the cause of it?

How old is the battery in it Bob?

Change the battery in the FOB and see if that don't fix it!!

Thats the first thing that came to my mind I did put a new battery in the remote and that didnt help. :confused

I didnt see any code come across the dash. Ill look and send them to you if there are any.

Depending what systems,You probly won't see any in the DIC, unless you pull them!! I can't even try to Diagnose the problem without them,ALL of them History and Current!!

I've been having this exact same issue on my 2000 for about a month. I've posted some stuff on the board here about it. I replaced the battery but that didn't fix it. No codes have been popped. I never got an answer so I ordered a new remote. Still waiting on it to arrive. I do have two remotes and the #2 is still working fine. Another board member has a pair of new remotes for sale in the for sale section for the same price I paid for one remote. But, if you find another answer on fixing it, I'd be happy to know about it. I reset mine several times a day and it works from 1 minute to 1 hour.

So one of the remotes work and the other doesnt? Sounds like it may be the remote. Let me know if the new one works when you get it.

New remote was in the mail when I got home. I followed the instructions and relearned the new remote and the wife's remote. Both are working fine. Now this is day one so I don't know how long it will hold, but I'm betting that the FOB just went bad. Like I said before, the wife's was working fine, it was just mine that was goofy. Can't say for sure Tiger, but it sounds like you have the same issue.

I got my new remote from KeylessRide.com. It was $79 plus $6 for shipping. A board memeber is selling a pair of them in the for sale section for that price. You might want to look into that.

Well,I'd try taking the battery out and cleaning the the contacts on the fob for the battery first before I'd buy a new one!!

Absolutely. Try the easy fix first. $4 battery and 5 minutes cleaning up the old unit might fix some FOBs. Didn't work for me. But, it's nice to know that the new FOB works if that doesn't. When I relearned the remotes, I made the bad one #3. It worked for a while and then went bad again. There's no telling how many times that thing has been dropped, gotten wet and dusty, etc. I'm sure those things take a beating but this one just finally quit ticking. I busted it up so that it couldn't be used any more and threw it away.
