The Vatican elects a new pope about once every 10 years. Coincidentally, or not, reborn Corvettes follow the same cadence. Speculation about the next high priest of the Milford proving ground has consumed the faithful for the past few years, only intensifying in the lead-up to the car’s official reveal at this year’s North American International Auto Show. Now, weeks before the silk comes off, we have sleuthed out all the important secrets of the seventh-generation Corvette, a.k.a. C7.

Ya know...

I think the back of that car is, well, ok. I'd prefer the traditional round tail lamps but the squared off lights are ok.

What I don't like is the glitzy grilles in the front fenders, the style of the wheel spokes and, I'm not sure about those rear quarter windows. I think, if there's anything on that car that's truly "un-Corvette" like, it's those windows. It makes the side of the car above the beltline look too much like a Mustang, a ZX, an Infiniti, or etc.

The rest of it, looks pretty damn cool!

Knowing about the engine and making some guesses about the chassis tuning, structural improvements and reduced weight has me believing the car will be an outstanding performer.

Interior-wise, scuttlebutt is truly better seating is in the cards. Sadly, we'll probably get a lot of overpriced, useless telematics crap, too, but then, I guess that's a sign of the times.

Interestingly, what we're looking at is the Grand Sport. I wonder what GM has in mind for the base car?

I like the front half of the car, but the rest is going to take a while to get used to.
I don't like what they did with the side vents either.
