Had my alt. tested today-need a new one-heres is the question for you all,new at dealership 600$ bumper to bumper auto parts.new a.c. delco-389$ Auto zone reman.with lifetime warrenty-159$What would you do and why?

I'd probably go with the reman'ed unit. Alternators aren't that tough to change on these cars and with a lifetime warranty, can't go wrong. JMO

come on guys chime in!whats the diff between 150 and 600 alternators?pretty wide spread of prices:confusedI'm confuzed

I agree with Tom....
with a lifetime warranty it goes bad you change it out, other than your labor...
no charge!!!!

I can't believe these dealers! one said 622$ who would pay that?are they nuts?think I'll go reman.anybody feel different about that?

Make sure that you get the correct alternator for your vehicle as C5's are computer monitored and can create issues if they are not correct for the vehicle. I would look into having yours rebuilt locally if at all possible. Good luck with it.

thanks for the comments.I went with a rebuilt unit.checked it out first, everything lined up,correct volts, and everything, got a printed lifetime warrenty slip.we'll see how well it holds up.The faCTORY ONE SAID MADE IN FRANCE! jeez can't we make anything here in the USA?

It's been that way for decades.

Blindly buying "American" just because it is any American company only means that are filling the pockets of the suits in charge.:)

If you want to rebuild your Valeo 110 amp alternator, the common parts that fail are available at the below link. It seems as though the voltage regulator is key when rebuilding the alternator to keep the DIC from throwing a code. I just ordered parts for my '99 to have on hand in case I need to rebuild it. I'll probably rebuild it soon, just to do it even though the original OE one appears to be working fine now with 114,xxx on it.
