A few days ago my alternator started failing, and my battery died. The problem was that the pwer steering pump had become loose, and the belt was not drving the pully going to the alternator/alternator belt. So tonight we tightened everything back up snug, abd she runs and charges fine...but for some reason my alternator is getting quite hot (almost burning hot after a 15 min jaunt.

A: Is this normal?
B: If not, do you have any advise?

Thanks!

Anyone??? Buehler??? :D

How hot is hot? It's normal for an alternator to get hot, especially if it's working full tilt trying to charge a partially run down battery.

If it's not making funny noises like a bad bearing, I wouldn't worry. :beer

Hot like I wouldn't want to put my hand on it for any length of time... but not hot enough to instantly burn me. The only noise I here is from the engine... ROOOAAARRR!

Thanks Mikey!
Dave

Like everything in the engine compartment that is metal, it will be to hot to touch after the engine warms up. I'd say if the idiot lights arn't comming on then you are probably OK.
