Alternator Wiring Question/Problem

I removed my alternator so that I could get at my power steering pump. I waitedc a day to put it back in and now I forgot how everything went. I have a picture here and that shows how I have it wired right now. At the top right I know that that ones right but its the other thick wire that Im not sure about as well as the connector.

Theres 2 thick wires coming from the the same spot from the fire wall, a black one and a red one. I have the red one attached and the black one hanging there. As for the connector I have the red wire to the top.

Can someone please clarify which one goes where please. Thank you in advance.

It looks like you have the connections right, red wire to red terminal, black wire to case, connector to voltage regulator.

You might want to re-route your black wire under the alternator so that it comes up from underneath the case with the lug body pointing down.

Thanks for t he advice I thought I had it right. For some reason now the battery is draining if I leave it over night. I have the connector so that the red wire is connected to the #1 terminal and the white wire is connected the #2. I guess I have some more tinkering to do.

My 81 shop manual shows the heavy ring lug (red wire) connects to the "Bat" screw terminal (w/ rubber boot cover) located on the rear of the alternator; while the smaller red wire connects to the #2 blade terminal at the recessed opening on the side and the "brown" wire connects to the #1 terminal. You should also have a seprate ground wire(large diameter ring lug) that connects on the rear of the alternator at the same place the rubber hoses support clamp mtgs (hoses going to vapor canister / air pump and carb), assuming you have same California smog requirements.
