Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Am I the only idiot

Ahhhh, this prompted me to clean everything aluminum under the hood while watching the kids play outside today.

And we are all insane.

Mart

I am not insain because you all sound normal to me..

I just need to get all the dirt out from under the carpet at least once a year....and dust it under the dash pad once in a while

Nope you are okay. I used all sorts of materials and tools to clean the engine bay after I purchased the car. So far I have used steel wool, Scotch Bright, tooth bursh, cutips and tooth picks to clean the parts under the hood. Unfortunately we are short of Mother's and fancy stuff in Turkey to clean & polish aluminium; so I ended up using pure muscle power and WG-4 spray. It worked quited good so far. Recently I started getting back to normal and not doing so much cleaning any more. But again, you are alright buddy. Corvette is an obsession.

Cheers,

Selim

I think the question is; if you have a Corvette why would you NOT want to keep the engine and undercarriage clean? I think every one that might think you are crazy had better have themselves checked out.

My father used to preach to me while checking the oil or changing the oil in the air filter as they once did in those days. "Anytime time your under the hood of a car, wipe the engine down some". I've always done that to this day. Polish on!

I couldn't find the emoticon I was looking for so.................

This thread is worthless without pics!

Not crazy at all. I've seen a number Vettes that have all the aluminum polished. They look great. As soon as I get my Vette mechanicaly sound I'll be polishing too.

What is the formula for cleaning the valve covers? Mine have kind of an orange cast on them?

Thanks

Mine too!I think that is normal for our Vettes, the only thing I have heard is replace or paint them.

Your valve covers are made of magnesium, which is porous enough that oil seeps through over time and discolors them. You can clean and paint them but the discoloration will reappear again over time.

Thanks Ken, It looks like a big job just to pull them off.

It only qualifies if it's the stock exhaust. In which case, you are indeed, nuttier than a fruit cake.

LOL

I spend some of the best years of my life in Cols. Neat town.

Nah, it's a 12 step support group for ya. You know, "...It's been 14 days since I last removed a wheel to clean the BACKSIDE." Applause breaks out in the room and pats on the back abound...:grouphug:

I'm actually a life-long Grove City resident. Every winter I look at my wife and ask her to tell me again why we stay in Ohio. Oh well, GO BUCKS!
