i got a question for all you guys running amps out there. is it safe to screw into the wall behind the drivers seat? how about into the floor of the rear deck next to the storage compartment? or should i use another method like double stick tape? i have a 94 convert and just got a new system and turns out i need an amp.

Hey Josh

I just installed a new sound system in my car and put the amp on the rear wall of the car, inside the rear deck. I put a piece of ½” thick MDF with four screws in it, to match the mounting holes of the amp behind the carpet. I cut four small cross shaped cuts to suit the screw spacing in the carpet and other slots to suit the wiring. Put the MDF behind the carpet poked the screws and wires through the cuts in the carpet and mounted the amp to the screws in the MDF, with the carpet trapped between the MDF and the amp. Its not going anywhere.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

dude, i'm not up on the lingo, what is MDF?

Medium Density Fiberboard,
It is kind of like particle board but much denser, uses smaller wood particles.

You just need to be careful screwing into it as it does strip out very easily. In a case like this you might be just as well off with some plywood since it wont be seen.

The guy I bought my rag off installed two big amps on the deck behind each seat, screwed right to deck. Then he put Pioneer box with two 12" subs behind them, roof barely fits on top. Considering dumping all as no room behind seat on deck for anything bigger that a couple cd boxes...
When cranked bounces fuel door open wide and shakes whole car! RJS:_rock
