Powder coated 5 spoke wheels

I recently stumbled across the LY 4 forum and discussion about
powder coating the wheels.
I recently purchased a white LT 4 coupe and although I have owned a number of vettes in my life, the LT 4 is one of the fastest
and by far the most fun to drive.
I purchased a set of aftermarket 5 spokes, talked them into selling them to me raw (no coating), then had them powder coated white to match the car. Probably wouldn't work with another color, but it made the white car look great. paid $880.00
for the wheels $100.00 for the powder, and sold the Sawbladws
on e-bay for $620.00. Reslt great looking car with not much invested in the wheels.

Thanks for the update, Gman. I ran across a photo somewhere around here of a Polo Green convertible with the 2001 five-spokes on it. After soliciting opinions, those are in the running now, too. Not sure what I'll end up getting now.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation, and it's just like getting a new Vette all over again since I only had 5 days to enjoy it before. Gave it a nice bath yesterday only to go kill a bunch of bugs on a drive to my sister's place. It's a nice drive, but I need to find a route with more on-ramps!

garnett, $100.00 to powder coat all four? Even if it's per wheel, it sounds like you did well.

Jamison, the wheels will be mounted on Thursday. I'm pumped.
:cool

Gman, finding someone to powder coat was interesting, the quotes ran from $150.00 per wheel to $30.00 per wheel.
Also had to get the correct color. Finalls got all four for $100.00,
The owner was also a vette buff.
As for the 11" wheels on the rear, I am not sure there is enough rear fender clearance. The ZR-1 has additional clearance in the rear.

Wow, that's a deal, garnett. You did very well. Did you powdercoat clear over it? Should be easy to maintain and I'm sure they look good on your car. It's getting more difficult to look different. You probably don't worry about showing up at an event and parking next to your cars twin....:upthumbs

Gman, If you mean clear coating over the white powder, no didn't
think of that, hope that doesn't cause problems in the future.
I have found that white wheels are really bad about showing brake dust.
Has anyone had any experience with a new product by Cragar, that claims to keep brake dust off the wheels?

garnett, yeah I was talking about clear powder over the white. The ZR-1's I bought ( which BTW are now mounted and look great...I'll have to get a digital camera to post pics ) are silver powdercoated finished with clear powder. I know powdercoat is really durable so I don't know if the clear is needed. It does give the color more depth though. Heck, if you can get them done for 100.00, it may be worth it.

Gman, thanks for the tip on clearcoat. Since they are already mounted and on the car, I will consider the clearcoat when I need new tires, which won't be too long.
Your black car will look great with silver ZR-1 wheels.
I assume the wheels you are refering to are the same as the wheels that were standard on the Collector car 17" x 8.5" front and 17" x 9.5" rear. You probably know that those wheels were optional from the factory on your car. I saw a Polo Green car with those wheels from the factory that looked great. I don't understand why dealers didn't order more cars with that option.

That works out for you. By the time you need tires, you will have had enough drive time on the wheels to see if the clear would help or not.

Yes, the silver wheels do look good and the sizes are 8.5 and 9.5 as you said. I really wanted something a bit more understated, so when you see the car your eye doesn't go to the wheels first. I think the white powdercoat on your wheels probably accomplishes the same thing.
