I just bought a 93 convertible and the PKE works to some degee. It works as it should and unlocks only the driver side door. I was told that if I reprogrammed the fob that everthing would work as it should. I followed the owner's manual and still nothing. I can't reprogram the passenger side door to open or deactivate the system. Any ideas out there?

If I understand correctly the system is working, but only opens the drivers side door. To program door opening, put the key in the ignition (don't turn on) & then hold down the door button until each door lock cycles to open at the same time.It will take a few trys to figure it out. To deactivate the system, hold down the door button until you hear/see the door locks cycle. To activate use the same procedure.

Yes the system does work. I tried pushing the button with the key positioned just as you said, but got nothing to cycle in either case. The car is in transit as we speak so I will keep trying when I take delivery. Thanks!!

Pke

I have a '95 and am not sure it's the same as yours but here's how the '95 works.

With the fob programmed per the owners manual, you may change the 'mode' from two door to one door or from on to off.

To change modes;
With the key in the ignition and set to 'off', (I usually have the doors closed sitting in the car but don't know if this is necessary), hold down the fob door button. In a second or so the door locks will twitch slightly -- keep holding the button down. In about 2-5 seconds the door locks will cycle fully. The system will then be changed from one to two door operation (or vice versa).

With the key out of the ignition, holding the door button down (again until the door locks cycle fully) will switch the system off or on. When 'off' is selected, the "Passive Keyless Entry" lamp on the dash will NOT illuminate upon ignition "on".

Two cautions;
The service manual warns to have the radio turned off during fob programming (setting it so the car recognizes the fob).
My car's pke doesn't work correctly if my cell phone is charging from the cigarette lighter. It's difficult to predict what it will do but in all cases the range is reduced to about 1' from the driver's door. In fact if the cell phone is in the car and turned on, the pke gets iffy.

Hope this helps

PS The service manual also lists a diagnostic procedure to get codes listed by the PKE dash indicator lamp if you need them.

That's good info....especially about the cell phone and the radio needing to be off. I know for a fact that the radio was on when I tried earlier and that there would be a better than good chance that a cell phone could be plugged in during future operation .Thanks, I'll try your way when the car arrives.

O.K............Here we go.After taking delivery of the car, I set straight to work on the PKE. I followed the owners manual and re-programed the fob. I then put the key in the ignition and held the button for up to twenty seconds......no action on the door look reset. I then backed away from the car (out of range ) and again held the button for up to another twenty seconds and the system will not disarm. The radio is off and there are no other electronic devices anywhere close to the area much less the car. Again the system works but will only disengage the alarm as it should and then opens the driver side door ONLY. Do I need a new fob, sytem service or what? Any ideas ?
