I am planning on putting a new mast on my antenna since it will not go down all the way. How difficult of a job is this? Are any special tools etc. needed? What is the procedure?

Thanks :)

i just replaced mine in my 91

its easy
buy the kit it comes with the tool u need to remove the nut
but it would have been alot easyer with 2 people

cause u gota turn on stereo and then off at certain times when replaceing it while feeding a "plastic string" (i dont know what to call it)
takes maybe a whole 10 mins and that would include opening the package with the mast in it

in other words very easy

Antenna Mast Installation

I have a 1992 and the simple replacement from the top was not possible because there was no "nut". It was sealed. I ended up removing the entire assembly from the fenderwell and I'm glad I did. At least 1/2 of the plastic strip gear was still inside the housing, so the easy replacement would not have worked. The whole job took about 45 minutes. 4 screws hold the assembly in place. Remove them and you can pull it straight down. Take the gear housing apart, clean it out, install the new section, lube it up, put it back together. I have a link to a good set of instructions (that I've since misplaced)...let me know if you want them and I'll dig em up.

I agree with Greg, the simple replacement with the little tool is impossible. Can I suggest you put the rear of the car on jackstands, it will make the job easier. Also, you might want to remove the plastic wheel well, but I didn't have to. The antenna housing drops down surprisingly easily, by removing the bottom screws and the grounding strap, but it is a nightmare to remove and reinstall the rubber grommet. You should be able to work on the antenna housing without having to remove the grommet, that's what I did, because the housing drops down far enough below the bumper for you to work on it.

Tyrel,

Did you simply remove the two bottoms screws and the antenna motor dropped down? I have a broken zip line inside the motor. It runs and stops, so I know the motor is fine. I bought the repair mast kit, but cannot install it until the plastic zip line is removed. I know I have to remove the motor, but I wondered how far I had to go to dissasembe the rear end of the car.

Thanks,
Dino

I have been tring to pull the bloody antenna but It want come out. The car came form the north so it has salt build up. Has anyone have a trick?

There are two more screws at the base of the mast, or the top of the housing depending on how you look at it. You don't have to remove the grommet from the fender well. So there are four screws altogether. Two are phillips head and two are hexagonal bolt heads.

I don't know what you are talking about, mine took

a total of 5 minutes. I have a 91 coupe.
