Are there any diadvantages besides speedo being off when going with smaller diameter tires then stock? Stock is 225/70/15, and i want to put 285/40/17 which will be about 5% smaller in diameter then stock. Ill also be putting 255/40/17's on the front....is this gonna cause any issues with the front tires being slightly smaller in diameter then the rears? Sorry if these are remedial questions, i just dont know too much about it.

I actually wanted to put 295's on the back...but cant find anything for a 17.

No problems at all other than you can't rotate the tires after that.

Many new cars have off set tire sizes front to rear. You will be just fine.

I'm running 275/40-17 all the way around on my '69 with no problems. I would recommend that setup rather than the slight difference in tire size hat you are considering. Theyare a bit shorter thatn the ones you are considering, but its not that big of a deal.

Once you have your new tires, go to someone who rebuilds transmissions and they usually have the plastic gears that your speedo connects to. If you can't find the correct gears locally, call a fellow in my area who stocks the gears. His name is Harvey Jacobs, of Jacobs Corvettes: 412-264-9151. Since he rebuilds Corvette running gear components, you tell him how much your speedo is off, what color gear you have and he will sell you the right gear. Taking the gear out is easy but a little bit dirty.
