Any trick to replacing the speedo cable ?

Speedo stopped working. How difficult is it to replace the cable ? Any tips ??? Thanks,

Before you condemn the cable, check the plastic speedo driven gear at the transmission - lots easier to change.

Just replaced the cable and gear on my 77. The hardest part was getting the cable off of the speedo and back on.. Other than that it was pretty easy..

I understand theres a clip that you have to disengage behind the speedo ? Then the cable can be pulled out ?

I did a 69 replacement and the clip was in the dash. I had to pull the spring type tab toward the back of the car and it released the speedo cable. Other years have a nut that you turn off. The worst part is geting your hands behind the dash. I dropped the steering wheel and then dropped the dash down. there may be another way but I could not get my hands in there.

I've had the cable in my 77 out a few times. If you drop the vent duct you can reach up there and push the little clip. It's a PITA but can be done with minor swearing and a couple adult beverages!
