I am trying to dig up some info on a '57 Corvette called the "Tomato Can" that used to run at Atco raceway in NJ back in the '60s.

Any info or pics on it would be greatly appreciated!

Re:

I believe you're right!

My father is a huge 'Vette enthusiast (kinda how I became one too), and has told me over the years that the three big contenders from our area on the racing circuit were:

1. The Tomato Can
2. The Tar Baby
3. The Glass Slipper

He believed all of them to be '57 Vettes. So, I thought it would be neat to get some info on them for him.

With in the last year so someone from this site or another site had linked to there website (a racing site) and it had a bunch of pictures from the 60's racing circut.I hope he checks in on this post because I lost the link with a computer upgrade.

Tomota can

Hey guys I just saw your post, although over a decade later. Lol. The tomato can was driven by my father Marvin Sterling. He also had the yellow canary which was also owned by my dad. He speaks volumes about his close friends who help work on the cars like John troppo, hersey Irwin, dick Spence. My dad is a very humble honest man. He said son I could drive but Johnny throp was the horsepower man. Tar baby was owner and driven by Jay Hammond, the glass slipper is under known to me, but dad 100 percent will know. My dad is from Delaware city de

This is an older post, Henrys but thanks for following up. Do you have any pictures of the "Tomato Can" that you can post?

My dad and I have spent a bumch of time trying to find the car so we could restore the car back to its race days. A gentleman bought the car that was handi capped and wrecked the car pulling it of his trailer. The car was converted to auto trans prior to its demise. If you ever hear of the car, please shoot me a flare. My dad is really proud of both corvettes. I was wrong the other car was the hot canary

They used to cut those quarters out for slicks and not think a thing about it. times were different then. I hope you can find it and restore it too it's as raced configuration.

I'm guessing the name referred to the colour... and likewise the Hot Canary?
