I am thinking about a rear end swap on the vert. Now I have a Dana 36 with low gears. Was thinking about purchasing a whole rear end unit with a Dana 44. Has anyone done it before?

why are you worried about a rear?

Just want to be ready for anything. I spin them so bad out of the hole, I am going to put bigger, wider, stickier tires on and eventually I think something will give and from what everyone says the D36 is the weekest link.

Yes it has been done many times. If you plan on putting on drag slicks put the 44 in first that way you can sell the 36. If you race it with the 36 all you will have to sell is a hunk of junk unless you have an engine that is weaker then that weak sister rear-end :ugh

i seriously wouldn't spend money on a D44 unless you are breaking in the 12's.

i can assure you i beat on mine harder than 99% out here and with that high gear and low stall converter your not gonna hurt it as easy as you think you are.

when you hear of D36's breaking they are swapping in gears with small gear overlap and or putting in high stalls on slicks.

i'm shooting for 10's on my 2.59's on juice this fall. will it last? probably not but thats 600+ rwtq once it breaks i'm going with a D44 but i can't see spending upwards of 2k+ for labor and the rear itself until the other one just breaks.
