Herb,
Progressive still sells that same frame direct. My thoughts are that this is pretty old technology and will offer little improvement over a properly prepared original suspension. If you are going to all the trouble of updating the suspension of one of these old cars, then go all the way to C4/C5 suspension.
I believe that CC used to get about $11K for this setup.

Regards, John McGraw

thanks John....as you can tell, I am still waffling all over the place on what to do....I don't have the money saved up just yet to spend for the Myers front end piece....so I keep looking and wondering.....thanks!!!

Herb

I'm not an expert but I am already looking ahead to my next project, a "resto-mod" probably a 61 model again. I think your biggest gain with this frame over stock is the rack & pinion steering and the front disk setup. Those two things alone are a big improvement over original, but as John M. suggested why stop there when you can make a tremendous improvement with a Myers or similar upgrade with c4 or c5 technology?

$$$$ is the number one reason....the more I look at this the more I think the best solution fo rme is to go the Myers IFS route.....while it is true I would be most happy with the C5/C4 setup...I won't be as happy $$$ wise.....I could tap into my 401K for a loan no problem....probably make more money in interest from me than it is making in the market...so it all comes down to the money and do I want to spend it.....that is what is holding me back.....ME!!!!

I feel your pain Herb, as I am by nature a tightwad too. But after corresponding with John, Rich and Larry over the last year I've determined that there really is no other way to go than with the C5/C4 set up. I decided to save a little longer and get the one I wanted rather than the one I could afford. Of course, at the rate I'm going it's going to take me 10 more years to finish it. Didn't mean to rant, but I say go for it.

normally I am not a tight wad.....and my better half says if you can afford it, go for it.....but I also have an ex-half that I have to make 28 months more of spousal support....I want the car running before then....I want it on the road next summer....I could do it...but I would have to take on some more debt in order to.....and I don't want to wait 10 years....so, perhaps I make a compromise,,,see how it would go with the Myers set up....if it goes good, then perhaps I sell it and look for one to go for the gusto! My problem, gusto would mean full tube frame, C5/C4, LS2 or LS6 motor with Magnasupercharger....all of that stuff = lots of money....that is why I am better off with what I have for now......sigh....I know its only money and you can't take it with you.....lol......

Best of luck with your decition.

I chose the SR111 frame strickly for the cool factor of it being tubeular.

If there was no such thing as an SR111 frame, and I had a solid frame to work with I would have chose the Meyers set up myself.

Although I highley recomend the SR111 frame. This car I am building has been a highley labor intensive project. Most definately one that has tested all of my skills.

Wes will you be in carlilse this year. I am not sure who is closer .ME John McGraw but I would highley recomend you get a visit in with someone who has built one of these to feel it,touch it. and to just study the completed car to better under stand what you have to do.

Meyer set up seems smart

I would agree.. just spending money on a new frame if your old is in good shape..doesn't seem like smart money..

If your looking for disc brakes, and rack and pinion.. consider a Meyer front with both of them and in addition tubular a arms.... along with a zz383 (if you need a new engine)

This way you could keep a rear like a 3.36 0r 3.08 if you have one already in there... and still have plenty of torque off the line.. the same rear wouln't be too bad at 65mph crusing( much better then a 3.7 or 4.11 at 65mph) and the rear should hold up and be fine....your Borg warner t-10 will hold up with street tires...

$$$ saved is... no frame..no transmission.. no rear.. and you still get a good driving hot rod car that with 400 HP and 450 ft lbs will be very very fast for the street and 1/4 if you ever decide to go to the track

while I didnt get the zz383, I did have the 350 that came in the car rebuilt to a 383......I will be at Carlisle....looking one last time before ordering something......lol

Let us know what you ordered

Seems like one last look is a good idea.. let us know if you see anything that caught your eye..
