Hi, can anyone tell me how to test relays? I have one or two suspects (ABS) and I know there must be an easy way to test if they're OK?

I guess that the diagrams etched into the relay cover means something to someone with more electrical knowledge than me.

I also thought answers would be useful to other Vette owners.

Thanks in advance. Malc350

You need a diagram that tells you which pins are the coil and which pins are the contacts. Apply 12 volts across the coil and once it is pulled in test across the contacts with an ohmmeter to see that it is then making contact. Also check across the contacts while the relay is not energized to ensure that the contacts are breaking when they are supposed to.

Good luck,

If the relay checks out, ensure the 'coil side' is getting power when the relay is supposed to be energized, and that the 'input' side of the switchable side has power available to the 'output' side.

GREAT article!!!!!!

Could not have done it better myself. Thanks Ken...
