I'm thinking of dropping a few thousand dollars on mods for my vette at NorthStar Automotive Technology in Mountain View, CA.

I met David Bonar (one of the owners?) at Infineon Raceway. He was also racing an LT4 on their drag strip... a club racing car with a roll bar and all that. He seems to really know his stuff and apparently does well at several racing events. I'm feeling more confident about working with this shop than other Corvette shops I've talked to (that thought an LT4 has a Dana 36...).

Just wondering what others experiences with this shop have been?

Hi Skant,

Dave is the guy to use here in the bay area. By the way I met you the same night at the track, I had the red C4 that was having trouble with the tranny shifting. Still haven't been able to isolate the problem. You were talking about checking out our club, we meet this Wednesday in Los Altos. Check out our web site for the details. www.sccorvettes.org . I know you drag race, do you do any autoX?

AutoX is the main thing I want to get in to right now. Haven't gotten to do it yet. Only done some drags. And I'm not too great at even that yet. But getting better!

Santa Clara Corvettes does seem like the right club for me as far as I can tell. I'm mostly interested in racing events with a secondary interest in shows and socials. I eventually want to build up a second vehicle as a pure race car (though Dave says I should just use the one I got... I might). A lot of the Corvette clubs I've looked at seem to be disinterested in racing or only as a minor side note.

As far as I'm concerned, a Corvette is a street legal race car. :D

If SCC is one of the best for a racer, sure... I'll be there Wednesday!

AutoX

Hi Skant,

Santa Clara Corvettes is the most active club here in northern CA. We have 4 autoX's scheduled. The only other all Corvette autoX in the area is by North Bay, they usually put on 2 events. There are no other all Corvette events, but if you come out on Wednesday, you can talk to the other club members who also race SCCA autoX. They run against mostly ricers on tracks set up for them with short straight aways, and lots of tight curves. With the new gears you should be able to be competitive even on those type of tracks. Hope to see you Wednesday.
