Hey guys, Anyone see anything wrong with this photo of my new AFR195's? Fred.:crazy

Looks like the one rocker stud is longer than the others(?)
whats up with that?

Dave

Burglar, You got it!!! I waited 2 months and paid $1250 for this... I can't believe it. I wonder what isn't so obivious? Does make you wonder about the quality control. Fred.

Oops . . . not a good thing . . .

But, I'm looking forward to a report on how you like the heads once they're on there . . .

:_rock

Did you call them up and tell them about the problem?

Was the two months the lead time on thier heads? A friend told me there was 3 months for the BBF heads:eek

Frank

So the one that guess the problem right wins the heads...right?

Man, what a pain in the butt. I hate when that kind of stuff happens.

Called AFR today. They are going to do a 2nd day replacement for the stud. At first not too concerned... but after I explained how poor it was too buy a set of high dollar "Quality" heads that were not right after a 2 mo. wait.... OK, I wasn't that nice :mad :mad

Chris, I got a set of really nice used sbc heads I'll trade for "Killer" :Twist :bar Fred.

oooooo kinda embarrasing speaking highly of the heads but then this happens.

Well I spoke highly of the performance LOL.

Don't think your going to be disappointed with the results

Was the 2 months the lead time?

Frank

Frank, Doug Herbert Performance told me they would be shipped the week I ordered. (Nov 13, 2002) After 6 weeks I got nervous and got tough... Doug Herbert told me AFR lost my order....Then I get the heads and they have one wrong stud. Insult to injury.:mad :mad :mad Fred.

:o I see

I thought you ordered them directly from AFR.

Now I understand your :mad

Fred,
sorry to hear the lame news. this is the first time i have been exposed to a **** poor dealing with AFR. SORRY IT HAD TO HAPPEN TO YOU! since you are going to be waiting a couple of days, it would be a good idea to pull the valves and check stem clearence and condition of the seats. after the valves are out, it would also be an ideal time to gasket match the intake ports, your gaskets and the intake mainfold. then again you probably already have that taken care of. the rocker stud is an easy swap, and if everything else checks out good, you can have that bad boy put together before the stud gets there. are you going to break it in on a dyno or in the car?? hope everything else goes smooth for you, Brian

Brian, Thanks for your help, check out the progress on the C-3 Mods. We will check out the heads as well as well as fit the gaskets. Already have the stud out, it just irritates me spending $$$ and someone doesn't catch something so simple.:duh
I will do the break-in in the car. (Roller cam) I still gotta decide on a torque converter brand (2500 stall) and distributor/(tach cable drive using MSD box(6AL)). Fred.

Fred,
i feel your pain, it sucks out loud! hopefully that is the only thing that is wrong. i saw those pics, looking very nice!! glad to see you went with the Felpro one piece pan gasket, very nice item to have and i love mine! with a roller cam break-in should only take 15 minutes! after she's warm, a couple of revs should have the rings seated and then you off and running. you also might want to look into Gear Vendors overdrive unit. i am pondering it right now. it turns the TH400 into a six speed with out the limitations and hassles of the 700R4. it's pretty trick and costs the same as a 700R4 conversion. just what you needed to hear, another money pit just over ther hill!! Later, Brian

Brian, how much is the gear vendors unit? Any thoughts on the torque converter? Fred

Dunno if rocker stud holes in AFR are blind or not ... if not blind, usually the studs should be installed with a bit of sealer on them. Heck if they goofed on the obvious stud ... maybe you should double check stuff.
JACK:gap

Fred,
the Gear Vendor unit is $2200 off the top of my head. it comes with all the goodies for hooking up. you just need to shorten your drive shaft about eight inches. here is the website, http://www.gearvendors.com/
i think this will be the best choice for upgrading to an overdrive. i have lots of good reports, and a buddy of mine loves his that is in a built big block Super Bee on nitrous. as for torque converters, i am not an expert, but they are all pretty much the same for the TH400s. i would go with something in the 2500 rpm range. any higher and you risk slippage when cruizing around town. you won't know it is slipping, but it will add extra heat to the fluid. if the TH400 has any weakness, it is not liking extra heat. of coarse all auto trannies hate heat.
Jack brought up a good point, on my 210 AFRs the rocker studs went into the water jacket. so break out the liquid teflon for them and the head bolts. besides the cranial-rectal-inversion on the rocker stud, what do you think of the heads in general??
Brian

Brian, Thanks for the gear vendors website. As far as the looks of the AFR's, The machining looks Great! I can't wait to put it all together... I bought a torque converter today. A PTC 2500 stall converter. It won't be long now!!!!!!!!:bang :bang :_rock :_rock
