Any comments on this DIY series? It is very interesting and has some worthwhile tips but also seems to offer advice and info that seems to be in conflict with what other "experts" say. For instance... as part of installing a rebuilt head on the motor he suggests you just oil the head bolts and insert and tighten per recommended torque specs and sequence. Every where else I look they recommend you use a sealer on the ends of the bolts as they extend directly into the water jackets. Also states that a Hurst shifter is original equipment in another episode. In all fairness he is restoring it as a driver but if you mention details I would hope they would be correct. ;shrug

In 1974 I did my first valve job on a 1960 Corvette 283. I just put oil on the head bolt threads when re-installing them. It scared the crap out of me when several bolts seaped coolant after start-up.

That was only one of the many mistakes I made while "repairing" that engine.

That is about the same time I had my first 61 Vette. I was allot braver then and threw caution to the wind when it came to repairs. Now I know better and I also have a much better budget. :L

Hurst Shifter.

Right up my alley! A Hurst shifter was never OEM on 61`s or 62`s or to the best of my knowledge on any Vette. Late models I`m not sure as I do have a Hurst in my Black 2002 SS Camaro Convertible as a OEM unit. George Hurst did want to install one of his units in my 62 Vette years ago and I declined his offer at the 1963 NHRA Indy Nationals. I was using the Vette to tow one of our race cars and he insisted every day to have it installed. Never did though and never regreted it. The stock one still works perfectly. :upthumbs

I am watching the show.
You have to understand vette people are a sick, anal, group of folks.
So some of the stuff they are doing and saying is taboo. But I am enjoying the show with the understand that this fellow is NOT a true vette Aficionado. They are also building a driver. This show is perfect for my brother and my son because they dont know cars or right from wrong and they love to watch the show.

Sick people!

I don`t think so, Thats too broad of a statement. Some, maybe, a few, possibly. But there is always some in any group. Try joining a hot rod club if you want to see what you refered too.
However with Vettes, far too many are buying the old ones and should probably buy the new ones instead. A much wiser choice than purchasing a old dinosaurs like mine. With the old cars, most of them have gone through several owners and have been pump jockeyed up with BS aftermarket parts over the years. As a result trying to remake an old car is very expensive and when your done you still have an old car. It`s a joy to have air, power steering, and a good radio that comes with the new ones.:m :v :bar
