Are computer chips interchangable ??

I have a high performance chip from a
86 4+3. I am considering buying a 90
with a 6 speed of course.
I suspect that it is a different computer.
Anybody know if these computer chips will interchange???

I'm not to sure but my guess would be no.....only because every catologue you thumb through, they advertise chips for every year separate.

Thinking here

No would be my fist reaction.
85 & 86 are similar boxes
And so are 87-89 but there are SLIGHT control differences, not to mention the programing for 50 state smog or CA emissions. this series C-4
the PROM is an actual chip.

90-96 have similar boxes but the differences are hugh between those internal years. In this series the PROM is incased in a little Do-da(To keep das poken fingers outa das springin werks) with a circut board and a sheild into a quick eject connector.

Now to put an 86 chip into a 90's style box

Bzzzztttttttt wrong answer!

Easier putting a VW engine in your vette!!

Get the right tool (cpu chip) for the right job( your vette)

Mike

Thanks for the input.
There probably is a big difference between 86 and 90 chips, I read on another post that a 90 does not have a MAF. That is a whole different animal.

chip

NO WAY JOSE!!!!
EACH MODEL HAS THEIR OWN CHIP
GO HYPERTECH!!:s

Chip of the Block

Does that mean we have to go to the machine shop & do some welding?

LOL
Mike

Try some JB weld. that stuff works miracles
